God Will Provide

Genesis 22: 1-14 v 8 “God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son,” Abraham answered. And they both walked on together.”

Words that stood out

Some time later God tested Abraham’s faith. “Take your son, your only son- yes Issac whom you love so much- and go to the land of Mariah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering. The next morning Abraham got up early. He saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him and his son Issac. “Stay here with the donkey”, Abraham told the servants. “We have the fire and the wood,” the boy said,” but where is the sheep for the burnt offering?” God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son,” Abraham answered. And they both walked on together. And Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice. At that moment the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven. “Don’t lay a hand on the boy” Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. To this day, people still use that name as a proverb. “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”

Reflection

Abraham followed the Lords commands without question. He probably didn’t sleep much that night, so he got up early. Uncomplaining but with a heavy heart he did all the things necessary. Have you ever been in a situation where you had to do something but did not want to? When the outcome turned out to be OK? Abraham had faith that God would provide what was needed. God is always with us and provides for our needs. Have faith like Abraham that whatever you are not looking forward too will turn out alright in the end.

Prayer

Heavenly Father who has the power to do anything we trust that you have our best interests at heart in all we do. As we go through the motions of our day today with a heavy heart, we know that what happens is for the best, you will provide. Amen.
