Slaves to Righteous Living!

Romans 6: 12-23v “But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life.”

Words that stood out

Do not let sin control the way you live, do not give in to sinful desires. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So, use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace. You can be a slave to sin which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living. Thank God! When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the obligation to do right. And what was the result? You are now ashamed of the things you used to do. But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life

Reflection

In the middle of this passage complete with an exclamation mark are the words, Thank God! There is in us always the things we do right and the things we do wrong, or sins. There are many temptations outside of us in this world that distract us from doing good things, or righteous living. Thank God that we can choose the way we want to live. We can refrain from eating that second piece of cake, take a walk instead of watching TV, take a deep breath before answering your adult children who can still push your buttons towards anger. We can choose bigger projects like continuing to study or volunteering to help those in need. We can choose a path of healing from the things we are ashamed of. Free from the power of sin, and leading to deep joy, or Holiness. Thank God!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank you from the bottom of our heart for the power of your love that allows us to follow the right path with all of our body. Amen.
