Words that stood out
At sundown he arrived at a good place to set up camp and stopped there for the night. Jacob found a stone to rest his head against and lay down to sleep. As he slept, he dreamed of a stairway that reached from the earth to the heavens. And he saw the angels of God going up and down the stairway. The Lord said, “The ground you are lying on belongs to you. Your descendants will be as numerous as the dust on the earth! What’s more, I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go.” When Jacob awoke from his sleep he said, “Surely God is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it.” But he was also afraid and said, “What an awesome place this is! It is none other than the house of God, the very gateway to heaven!”
Reflection
Jacob was travelling as he had done many times before and followed his normal nighttime routine. But he had a vision that night that changed his life and ours too. He saw a gateway to heaven. And his reaction? Probably not unlike ours as well when confronted with the awesome power of God, I didn’t even know he was with me! And then it made him fearful, respectful and humbled towards God and he said, “how awesome is that!” Not an untypical statement today! God allows us to connect with Him through the words in the bible that are current to our present circumstances, how awesome is that!
Prayer
Almighty God, who promises to protect us in all we do for Him we thank you for the visions, dreams and insights we have every day, even though sometimes we don’t realize that you are there! Amen.
