Is there anything worth more than your soul?

Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem. He would be killed but on the third day He would be raised from the dead. Peter took Him aside and said, “This will never happen to you.” Jesus said,” You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s” Jesus said, “if any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.” And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but give up your soul? Is there anything worth more than your soul? For the Son of Man will come with His angels in the glory of His Father and will judge all people according to their deeds.

Reflection

We battle with choices daily. We see people we love making difficult decisions and we want to help them. Just as Peter was trying to protect Jesus and could not believe the path He was taking. But sometimes in the details we miss the big picture, the picture that is better for each one of us. God’s view of what we need is always good, He gives us the energy we need to do His work, and if we are overwhelmed, we need to ask ourselves what is worth more than our souls? Our spiritual health needs to be a priority, all we do needs to reflect His love, goodness and kindness. Take a deep breath today and choose to do what is best for your soul and all the other worries you have will not seem so important.

Prayer- Heavenly Father we sometimes are overwhelmed by the worries of this world. Help us today to focus on your plans, those that are best for our souls. Amen.
