Words that stood out
At the Lord’s command the whole community of Israel left the wilderness. Eventually they camped at Rephidim, but there was no water there for the people to drink. But tormented by thirst, they continued to argue with Moses, “Are you trying to kill us, our children and our livestock with thirst?” Then Moses cried out to the Lord, “They are ready to stone me!” The Lord said to Moses,” Strike the rock and water will come gushing out.” Moses named the place Massah (which means test) and Meribah (which means arguing) because people of Israel argued with Moses and tested the Lord by saying, “Is the Lord here with us or not?”
Reflection
I am sure like me you have often asked, “Is the Lord here with us or not?” When we are overwhelmed with anxiety, or grief or ill health, we cry out to the Lord! He promises to be with us. Like the Israelites he showed that he was listening and understood what they needed, he will for you too. He also supported Moses who continued to follow his instructions. When times are tough, seek others who believe, and they will help as God instructs and your needs will be met.
Prayer: Almighty God who is bigger than all our problems we thank you that you hear us when we are in need. We are sorry for arguing. Guide others to help us today when our own problems overwhelm us. Amen.
